In November 2009, 5 lots were recalled following consumer reports of an “unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor” that was linked to nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The recall is now being expanded to include all TYLENOL Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles with the red EZ-OPEN CAP. Only that product is affected. All other TYLENOL Arthritis Pain products remain available.

If you have the recalled product in your possession (check lot numbers here), stop taking it and follow these instructions for refund or replacement. The company plans to reintroduce the TYLENOL Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count product by January, 2010.

It’s scary that such a largely consumed product is having this problem. It’s terrible to hear that people are getting sick. What really makes me nervous is the cause, a chemical called ,4,6-tribromoanisole. Not sure if you know, but according to the press release this same chemical is used to treat wood pallets. This is pretty scary considering wood pallets are used to transport almost every piece of food we consume. If a contaminated Tylenol container can make people sick enough to cause a huge recall, what could this chemical do to the food products we consume on a regular basis? The website http://www.pallettruth.com has some other startling facts about the safety issues of wood pallets.

However, snuggling has more or less taken “regular sex”, and this is at least a great alternative. I do miss the closeness, especially on bad pain days, because then I do tend to hide my pain and just try to go on as best as I can. —karkell

Yes! I believe Arthritis affects sex and intimacy. However, thankfully, I do have a very loving and understanding husband. I am ‘only’ 39, with RA. I believe my medication is affecting my libido/sex drive. I know it has affected my hormones because I now suffer more PMS, even though I take a fair amount of Evening Primrose Oil daily. As far as sex is concerned, my meds have taken away the physical yearning. I have to choose to want it mentally. If I didn’t actively think about it, then I don’t feel for it. Physically, if I am having a flare up or suffering general pain, then together, we can work around it. We make adjustments and modifications if/when need be. It could be something as simple as swapping bed sides, so I can sleep on the side that does not hurt. Intimacy is not a real issue for us, in fact, it anything, RA has brought us closer to each other in the sense that when I am in pain, he soothes me with heat packs or rubs an ointment on me. Also, a sense of humour really helps.—Guest Shelly
